does a 4g63 engine fit in a 97 eclipse gst?

Answer:
The non-turbo 4g63 engines were found in the non-turbo 1g DSM's. The only difference between them and their turbo counterparts were the piston oil squirters. The non-turbo blocks can be machined for the oil squirters, if you're looking for more reliability. If the engine is going into a car that is meant for big power, you can forget the piston squirters; plenty of people do and don't seem to have a problem. The other main differences are the cam profiles from non-turbo to turbo. You'll have to do a basic 6-bolt swap to make it work, as the 1g's use a side motor mount that is different than the 2g. Also, the CAS has to be wired in differently and the spark plugs may need to be swapped on some of the cylinders. You may also have to swap the pinouts on two of the injectors at the ECU. The non-turbo cars also did not utilize a knock-sensor, so you'll have to tap the bung for that at the back of the block, under the intake manifold. The whole process is very similar to doing a straight-up 6-bolt swap, seeing as the blocks are identical, however, not all 1st gen DSM's had 6-bolt engines. Yours may be a 7-bolt NT 4g63. Either one is fine, but remember you'll have a different flywheel for each. Everything else should bolt up the same. Please note, the NT 4g63 was used in the European spec 2g cars for their non-turbo version; they didn't get any of the 420a cars. So the engine will fit, there's no question. It's just a matter of hooking everything up correctly. Visit the forums at www.dsmtuners.com for write-ups and tech articles how to do the swap. Message me there if you have further questions.
