Are 4.6l SOHC and DOHC engine harness the same?

420a is the neon and eclipse am I not right? srt4 srt-4 swap in a 1995 eclipse GS NA 420a?

  • Alright so heres the deal. my engine is ceased and im taking this oppurtunity to do something I've been thinking about ever since I got the car. would an srt-4 swap into a 420a eclipse. Theory and logic: 1995 neons and eclipses shared identical motors, dohc and sohc diferences but both being 2 liters. an rebuilt 420a engine brand new online costs 1500 and is classified as a neon, stratus and eclipse motor. many many many many people have swapped srt4's into 95-00 dodge neons. CONLUSION TO THEORY srt4 fits neon AND neon = eclipse THEN srt4 = eclipse. Parts I might need. srt4 rebuildable salvage title or axle, drivetrain, motor, trans, mounts, custom wiring harness, srt4 custom ecu, shift knob, custom interior, a dealership memory flash, srt4 brakes/ drilled slotted rotors, and finally srt4 lsd. I'm guessing around 5000 maybe 5.5k. Bfore answering consider the following.... 1 I hate neon srt4 body style and will never drive one. However, Im digging their engine. 2 now way am i going to waste my money on a gsx 3 eclipse with an srt4, instant car show victory! 4 I am mechanically inclined the real question do you think it can happen and has it been done bfore please have pictures available!

  • Answer:

Do you REALLY want another garbage chrysler motor in your car? 420 obviously meant something to the engineers at Chrysler, so that's what they named the engine (420a). Not only is it a poorly designed engine to begin with, they upped the bar on taking shortcuts to save a dime, like making the thermostat housing out of PLASTIC! Also, the head gaskets were made as cheaply and as thinly as they could buy to save money and generate revenue after they blew (conveniently not included under warranty). Besides, 420a's tend to self-destruct easily when you up the boost because the internals aren't properly forged (so they could save another few cents). Plus, it's a soft aluminum block, which simply can't take boost well to begin with. Do it right from the beginning and go with a 4G63. It's a bulletproof engine that has proven its tank-like durability under extreme conditions like the World Rally Championships year after year. Plus, that heavy iron block means it can take lots of boost too. Also, the 4G63 is exceptionally well understood and has sizeable aftermarket support, something that the 420a will never have. But with such boostability, you'll be seeing that the FF drivetrain can't provide adequate traction. So you might be better off going for a GSX from the start. A 1991 Eclipse GSX will actually jump off the line faster than a 1991 Corvette, according to Car and Driver.
