What Is Red-Eyes Turbo?

What is the difference between a Turbo and Non Turbo Talon Transmission? (Clutch/Input Shaft)?

  • I have a 1990 1g Eagle Talon TSI Turbo (FWD). 2nd gear in my transmission went out so I bought a 1g FWD tranny to replace it. I don't know what car it came out of and I am not sure if it came out of a turbo or non turbo talon... I bought a new clutch and after install the car would not shift into any gears with the motor running. It shifts smoothly when motor is not running and clutch is not needed. My shop said it is probably the wrong clutch application so when I called Summit Racing they said there are 2 different clutches. An 8 3/4" diam. clutch disc for the turbo and 8 1/2" diam. clutch disc for non turbo cars. Is this correct? If my new tranny is a non turbo and needs an 8 1/2" diam. clutch disc, can I swap input shafts so I can use my bigger (turbo) 8 3/4" diam. clutch disc I already bought? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!! THANKS!!

  • Answer:

the non turbo 4g63s have bigger cams and have higher compression than the turbos so their engine, cams, and trans were slightly larger.
