Has anybody ever used ultraviolet paint?

Paint problems on my 2000 eclipse?

  • I own a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse. It's black. The paint is oxidizing. In which means that I have white spots all over the car. I'm really ticked about it. I bought the car used a few years ago, and the dealership did repaint the hood and the trunk and the roof for me. But now the sides are doing it too. In which I knew it would. But the dealership told me that if it starts to do it on the sides, their not taking care of the problem. I wrote to the company telling them I would NEVER buy another eclipse again!!!! Has anybody out there heard of anybody having this paint problem on their eclipse?

  • Answer:

You are not the only one experiencing this problem. 3 of my neighbors who own the 3G black Eclipse also are having the problem. My cousin owns a 2000 black Eclipse but his car's paint is okay. He keeps his car garaged all the time though. I think the problem starts when the car is exposed under the sun all the time. Everyone knows that paint gets damaged when exposed to extreme heat. I live in California and my neighbors' cars are constantly parked outside.

My dads 95 tahoe had the same problem. Chevy provided $2500 for the truck to get painted. Try searching for a recall item on your year make and model of the eclipse. If you don't find anything, call the car manufacturer.

I see it all the time on that generation Eclipse. Black is the only color I've seen with that problem. There are probably other colors with the issue but it's just obvious on a black car. It leads me to believe that the paint that they used was poor quality from the factory. There's one down the street from where I live and the black was practically gone off of it. The lady that owns it just had hers repainted within the last month. Older Eclipses don't seem to have the problem and neither does newer ones. Only the 2000-2004 models have the problem. Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia.com about the problem: Issues with Clearcoat and Paint Many owners of the 2000-2004 models have experienced issues with the clearcoat separating from the paint. This is especially prevalent on cars with black paint. To date Mitsubishi has not acknowledged this as a problem. Here's the link as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_eclipse I hope this helps.
