How can I get my Tecumseh engine to get more power and speed?

Which engine on eclipse is easier to get + power after modification, the 99 eclipse gs-t or the 03 gts?

  • I'm looking to get a fun convertible that I'm going to trick out with a new body kit and decent paint job (nothing crazy). But obviously people are going to think its meant for racing so I actually want to have some ballz in it to run it against other sportier cars. However, I would like to keep the engine and just add or make modifications. Otherwise I would just replace the engine with something w/more horses. I would say my budget for these mods would be 2,000 or so if its worth the extra power and speed. Does it matter whether its automatic or manual? And can you tell me what mods would do what exactly. Thanks folks! I will really appreciate your two cents on this one!

    Ok first off if you listen to the guy trying to tell you to buy ebay parts...your logic is flawed so your screwed not matter what you do lol But, eclipses fall into three categories 1st Generation 1989-94, 2nd Generation 95-99, 3rd Generation 2000-2005? 4th Generation is current. Basically, they're all crap. The new ones are just a horrible platform to build on. 3g's same goes. 1g's, 2g's are mostly all beat to **** now. You gotta understand that these cars we're beat on from day one so your going to have a high maintenance vehicle. I used to have 4 DSM's, and all we're 1g's, or 2g's. I loved them but so finicky. But I will not lecture you on reliability, if you want to make power anything with the 4g63T engine will be your best bet. No other Eclipse model will be able to top this motor, and is why the Mitsubishi EVO used it for so long! They just recently changed the motor to the 4b11 I believe. I've been out of the Mitsu game for a while so don't quote me on the last one. But I have a friend with a 91 Eclipse GSX with over 600hp. And it quite common with these cars lol. So is blown transmissions though, so have fun with all that.

03 GTS I'm not saying it's the better car cause it's not, it sucks. But it prevents you from hacking away at a good car. Do yourself a favor and buy a honda/acura, it's crowd would be more your style.

None of them ill suggest the 99 gsx its almost the same think as an gst but the gsx is an all wheel drive and you can buy some bolt on modifications for them pretty cheap on ebay or someother web sites

99 gst's are the best of any model the eclipse comes in, after the 2nd gen they became more for looks (so I've been told?). people have more 'fun' driving manual, but I'd say go with what you like best! Just try not to 'rice' it out so much, keep it cool but not overdone :D
