I want to turbo my 2nd generation, 4 cyl. eclipse?
-
i want to try to save some money by not buying a kit but buying the pieces separately, and want about 10 lbs of boost. its hard to track down all the different peices i need tho. basically what im asking for is a list of all the pieces needed, and mayb where to get them. i know i need a turbo, exhaust manifold, boost controller, blow off valve. those things are obvious, but what kinds of things should i get concerning fuel delivery, like a larger pump, bigger injectors? a fuel rail? and where can i get the piping i would need for the aspiration related components? also how critical is an intercooler? a list of parts, links, or just useful knowledge would all be greatly appreciated, its just somewhat daunting to try to track down all the different peices, and im gonna buy them all at once, so i wanna make sure i know exactly what to look for. thanx fellow tuner enthusiasts

Erica seems to be the only sane one here, haha. Besides the fact that a 2nd gen Eclipse isnt a DSM, but thats a different topic. First off, I had a 97 eclipse gs spyder, I now drive a 96 Honda Prelude Turbo'd. So I've been on both ends of this thing, haha. "basically what im asking for is a list of all the pieces needed" List of parts: Turbo BOV Waste gate Piping (cold pipe, hot pipe, down pipe) Turbo Exhaust manifold Boost controller (manual will work with 10psi fine) Intercooler "and mayb where to get them." Turbonetics makes a great T3T4 turbo (I own one) Garrett GT30r is also good, but pricey. Most Mitsubishi guys run a 16G or 20G turbo, but a 20G wouldn't spool fast enough on an eclipse. Turbonetics "raptor" BOV is great sounding, but Ebay will work just fine. Waste Gate- 38mm Evolution waste gate from Turbonetics. ebay wastegates have cheap valves and break quickly. Intercooler- Ebay or andysautosport.com Piping- ebay Boost controller- Manual, go to ebay. Electric, go to any modification site (andysautosport.com, ilovebodykits.com *I know it sounds lame, but it isnt just kits*) "what kinds of things should i get concerning fuel delivery" At 10psi you dont need to change much. Thats a big misconception with tuners, unless you are making over 400whp dont worry about the fuel rail or additional/bigger pumps. You may need to find some 450cc injectors from a gs-t but thats about it. "where can i get the piping i would need for the aspiration related components?" Ebay will have pre cut kits, which will need to be welded together, then use cuplings where it meets the turbo/compressor housing/intake manifold/intercooler. "how critical is an intercooler?" below 6psi it isnt needed. at 10psi you could get a side mount intercooler from a 1st gen eclipse/talon. or if you just want to "look cool" lol, get a front mount intercooler (FMIC) from ebay or one of the sites listed. dont get anything too big though, you'll lose pressure and end up being less efficient. "useful knowledge would all be greatly appreciated" The first thing that came to mind was make sure you're exhaust manifold has the right size flange for the waste gate you buy. 38mm is the standard, thats why i suggested it. And also, you have to connect in your MAF sensor somewhere, Im not exactly sure where though, it shouldnt be hard to figure out, but i was just throwing that out there. Good luck with the build!

First of all, don't overcomplicate the process. The simplest route is often the most reliable route when it comes to cars. Just get a 4g63 turbo engine straight out of another 2nd gen eclipse. The engine you have is actually a dodge engine, in fact, it is the same 140 2.0 engine found in dodge neons of the day. So while it is totally possible to mod the engine you have, it is not cost effective in any way shape or form. Get a 4g63 turbo, check it out to make sure it doesn't have the infamous "crank walk" problem. you can usually tell because shifting from 1-2nd is tough because the crankshaft moves slightly, upsetting the transfer of power. With not much money at all, you can hook up a 4g63 with evo-style parts and have a real screamer.

There are sooo many answers for the questions you've asked. It all depends on exactly what you want...I suggest you start researching! The more research and reading you do, the better your mods will be. I can't tell you how many DSMs I saw go to sh*t because the owner didn't take the time to learn before they started modding! Some GREAT websites that I seriously recommend you spend some time at are: www.dsmtuners.com and www.dsmtalk.com Check out the DSMTuners tech articles - they are awesome, and full of very useful information. You can find them here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/tech-article-archives/ You can find everything you ever wanted and needed to know at both those sites. Good luck and happy modding :)

First off don't piece it together, its a bad idea. Get a hahns racecraft turbo kit which comes with everything you need, a warranty on the parts and will get you the 10lbs of boost you requested. Check out www.modernperformance.com or www.howellautomotive.com. I believe it comes with a 16G turbo, intercooler and piping, OEM 3000gt BOV.Exhaust manifold, fuel pump and most important instructions!

lol another ricer.. I could buy a standard chevy v6 car and outrace any of you infact the cobalt ss gets 320 hp with 30 mpg don't waste money on some crappy car with a tiny engine, if you want to get a real car, get a camaro ss with 498hp or a zr1 with 610 hp from factory
