95 eclipse, engine's shaking when it's running at the idle?
-
i have a 95 mitsubishi eclipse rs. about 2k miles ago, water pump failed and i had to drive it a couple of miles in that situation before reaching the repair shop, so the car was out of timing when i arrived there. the mechanics could fix it but the engine has been shaking when it's running at the idle since then. my mechanics told it's because the valve(s) hit the piston(s) when it was running out of timing. some other guy told it may be a damaged/failed injector. is there any way to understand the real cause of shaking and to fix it? thank you.

Answer:
Yes...take it to a mechanic that knows what hes doing...and...if you ran the car with no water pump..look at the head gasket, valves, plugs, etc...could be you cracked the head and the whole engine is shot...but also look at the bolts that hold the engine in... If the timming is shot the car wouldn't idle correctly and you would hear it...also it would backfire, especially when shifting. (might not be loud , but you'd feel it...)

This happened to my 95 eclipse as well but when my water pump failed it snapped the timing belt and my car died and bent almost all my valves =( but what happened to me is what happened to you just on a smaller scale while many/all of my valves were bent it sounds like very few on your were bent since your car still ran but what i have been told is that which ever cylinder has the bent valve(s) is not firing and causing the engine to shake since there is a missing cylinder in the firing order. fixing it would be very expensive just because in order to get to the valves you have to take apart almost the entire engine. the valve is only like 8-10$.

i mechanic for a living,,and they may have told you right ,about the valve,,hitting the piston, i have seen a few of these do this,if it is ,it has a warped valve in the head,,and it will make it idle rough,,and have a slight miss-fire to it when its driving also,,but they probably did tell you right,,and at this on it,, it would be real hard to tell if it had a bad injector in it,,because of the miss-fire,,you might want to let another mechanic look at it though,,another hands on opinion ,cant hurt anything,,good luck hope this help,s.
