Owner's Manual for 2000 Mitsubishi Galant- Need help in fixing driver's side headlight!?
-
Hi folks. I'm trying to figure out how to get a burnt out driver's side light bulb out of my 2000 Galant. I tried to read the manual, but this car is from a previous owner and the manual is as if you've dropped it in water and let it sit out to dry. The pages are all stuck together and it's pretty much rendered useless. Could someone with the same type of car tell me how to go about fixing this OR if you know a website with a free download of the manual (in PDF) this will be awesome! Matt

Answer:
The Galant and Eclipse have a common problem you should be aware of. The headlight wiring connectors are under designed for the currant draw and melt. The headlights either are dim or fail to come on. To repair this problem we replaced the harness connectors that attach to the headlight bulbs. Some bulbs can still be reused if the terminals are scraped clean of the corrosion or burnt plastic residue. After market head light harness connectors are available at a low cost. Make sure the new connectors get soldered to the car harness, don't use crimp connectors. You will need to study which terminal each wire is for. The replacements don't have the same wiring color code and the ones we used at the dealer even had the white wires and black wires going to different terminals than you would expect. If wired wrong, the high and low beams don't function properly. Try the lights before soldering them to make sure they work correctly. If the bulbs are just burnt out, reach the connector on the bulb that may be covered with the rubber boot and press the two releases on either side of the connector as you wiggle and pull it off. Then remove the boot. Next you will need to push the bulb retainer spring clip and move it from the latch which secures it. Now take the bulb out but before looking at the element, note where the flat side of the metal base is so you put the next bulb in correctly. If you don't get it in as before you will have the light pointing at the ground or sky.
