Dodge Stealth?

91 dodge stealth R/T TT AWD transfer case vs. 92 galant VR4 AWD transfer case...?

• OK.....got a good question for the Import/Tuner crowd out there.......here goes......I'm considering buying a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo. The guy that has it for sale is offering it a ridiculously low price because it has a blown transfer case and also needs the front drive shaft (i've already looked at the car and verified that this is the problem) ....I have searched and searched and searched online and locally for a used transfer case, but I can't find one that is decent shape (i.e. not needing rebuild) for under a grand......HOWEVER, i have locally sourced a 92 mitsubishi galant VR4 AWD parts car with a blown engine......Now, I know that the dodge stealth and mitsubishi 3000gt were essentially the same car, same engine, drivetrain, etc...but are the drive trains in the stealth r/t and galant vr4 the same? similar?.........would it be possible to use the transfer case from the galant without modification? or would I have to do some modification/ fabrication?

  Not even close. The Galant VR4 has a 2.0L 4cyl engine (4G63) and it is set up completely different than the V6 in your stealth R/T. There is no way you can use the transfer case from the Galant. Once you fix the transfer case and the drive shaft.. I give you my word that multiple other issues will arise and this will become a bottomless money pit. If it was worth fixing.. the current owner would do it themselves. That stealth is 18 years old and it has a very complex drive train and electrical system that is going to continually screw up at its age. Been there and done that.. not worth it my friend!
