How can I get rid of my bearshare toolbar?

How do I get rid of bearshare and stop it from being the homepage on the internet?

  • I have windows 7 and I use FireFox.I downloaded bearshare a while ago and immediately I wanted it deleted because it was stupid. I uninstalled it and it was gone. Now whenever I get on the internet, bearshare search engine is my homepage and I have tried to set another one as my homepage and it won't work. I even went into the about:config and searched up bearshare. It showed bearshare as my start up page, so I changed it to msn, and I exited out, went back into the internet and bearshare was back. Then I tried going to my computer, then searching up bearshare again, and there's these series of folders called bearshare applications. When I try to delete those folders, it says that I'm unauthorized to do that. Most websites suggest that those are the folders that need to be deleted, but it won't let me delete them. It says I'm not authorized. What can I do to get bearshare COMPLETELY off of my computer and make it so it stops showing up as my browser?

  • Answer:

Bearshare is a bit difficult and tricky to remove completely. By default, Bearshare makes the following changes: a) it installs Wincore Mediabar's "Web Search" search engine b) sets and keeps BearShare as the homepage c) sets the Search-Results.com as the default web search engine Here's what you should do: A. Run the free Revo Uninstaller: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html Using Revo Uninstaller, uninstall the Wincore Mediabar then follow it up with Bearshare. Do both in advanced mode. If you are asked to reboot, do so. B. Restore all browsers' search engine, homepage and other preferences. Firefox: 1. Click on Tools > Add-ons and remove the Wincore Mediabar and DataMngr add-ons if they are there. Restart the browser. 2. On Firefox's search box, click on the pull down arrow and select Manage Search Engines. Select the unwanted "Search Results" and remove it. 3. Change the homepage if it is still using Bearshare. 4. On the URL box, type "about:config" (w/o the quotes). Promise to be careful. In the filter box, type "search" (w/o the quotes). 5. Right click on each of the following if they exist and select Reset: browser.search.defaultenginename browser.search.order.1 browser.search.selectedEngine keyword.URL You will also need to fix your Internet Explorer even if you don't use it: 1. Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools > Manage Add-ons. 2. Select Toolbars and Extensions. Uninstall everything related to iMesh Inc. from the list: MediaBar, UrlHelper Class, etc. 3. Select Search Providers. First of all, choose Bing search engine and make it your default search provider. Then select Web Search and click Remove button to uninstall it (lower right corner of the window). 4. Go to Tools > Internet Options. Select General tab and click Use default button or enter your own website, e.g. google.com instead of search.imesh.com. Click OK to save the changes. And that's it. If you have Google Chrome: 1. Click on Customize and control Google Chrome icon and select Options. 2. Change Google Chrome homepage to google.com or any other. 3. Click the Manage search engines... button 4. Make google.com your default search engine. 5. Select Web Search from the list remove it by clicking the "X" mark.
