Where are the host files in MSN?

MSN & ICQ Received Files Mysteriously Disappeared?

  • I was regularly browsing through my computer files earlier, only to find out the folder where my MSN received files used to be stored was completely empty, save for the several subfolders I'd made a few months back. I don't know how long they've been missing, but I went to check my ICQ folder as well, and all the files there were missing too. Luckily, my Skype files are still in place, and there doesn't *seem* to be anything else wrong on my system. I ran a scan with Spybot S&D, which only came up with some tracking cookies (same ones it usually catches), and then I also made a scan with AVG. The latter resulted in two other tracking cookies (nothing to worry about, I guess), and apparently two "unknown viruses" that had infected some very old screensaver .ZIP files. I went ahead and healed everything, but I still have no clue as to whether the aforementioned files had anything to do with my empty folder predicament. Now, all the missing files are technically also on my previous hard drive (which had been cloned), so it isn't a serious loss, but I'd recently spent some significant time going through those files and arranging them, which is a bit of a nuisance considering they're gone now. Has anyone experienced such a problem? And if you have, did you find any solution? Thanks. :)
