How do you turn off the mute on a mercedes c240?

My Mercedes Benz 2002 c240 ignition key wont turn what could it be?

  • I had the car for over 5 years and never had this problem. Now when I try turning on the car the key wont turn it seems locked. I replaced the battery to the key and even disconnected the battery to no avail. Now I have a car stuck on parking mode and I cant even place it on neutral. It seems locked but the doors and lights work and I can close and open the doors with the remote key. What could it be?

    Your steering wheel could be locked. Try turning the steering wheel and key at the same time. Sometimes you have to do that a few times and by turning the steering wheel right to left a few times as you turn the key. Every time something like that happens to me it's always because my steering wheel is locked.

The batteries in the key won't do anything for this problem. Those batteries are strictly for the remote feature. Try your backup key to see if it works. If it does, the problem is most likely the original key. If neither of the keys work, the problem is likely the EIS (electronic ignition switch), the receptacle where you put the key in, as it is highly unlikely that both keys fail at the same time.

sometimes the locking mechanism sticks sometimes it helps to move the steering wheel and turn key at same time the wheel wont move much but try it moving the key to the accessories position then turning the key to the start position this works at times then get to shop or replace ignition locking device
