How does the Mazda rotary engine work?

Why are Mazda Rx7 Headers so small? Do headers work on the stock engine of a mazda rx7 (rotary engine)?

  • im very vrious to know this...

  • Answer:

Adding to what Tony said: The two rotor engines are kind of like a V-6, that has the displacement of 1300 cc. Exhaust headers are tuned to the capacity of the discharging volume. So each time the exhaust opens it only as to carry the combustion results of 211.11... cc. So in order to get the scavenging effect desired a small exhaust pipes work best.

They are small because technically the engine is very small. I dont know what year you are talking about exactly, but here is an example; A 1979 rx7 has a 12a motor, that means a 1.2 liter carburated wankel motor. The wankel motor is a rotary motor. Go here to see what I mean; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wankel_engine Yes they make headers for these motors, but it works best if you port the exhaust chambers of the engine as well. Porting means removing metal in the chamber to enlarge it.
