Answer:
Assuming you fixed the reason the light went on in the first place... you need to reset the error code in the ECM. This is done with an OBD II code reader. You can buy one, ask the dealer or mechanic to reset it for you, or ask at a local parts dealer. Or you can wait. After the computer decides enough time has gone by without an error, it will turn off the light.

If unplugging the battery for 20 seconds didnt work that means you have a new or constant code..once it was reset..you plugged in the battery and the code was triggered again

You will need OBDII scanner to scan for the trouble and fix the problem and use the scanner to erase the code.
