Where to find engine codes on mazda engine?

  • Hi there I have a Mazda engine fitted to a T2 Volkwagen bus, and need to find out what engine it is! I know it's a mazda engine, because it has MAZDA stamped on the head. I think it may be a B18 engine from a pickup or maybe a 1600 from the mazda 626... What I need to know is where is the engine code? I have heard the codes are usually cast into the block, but WHERE? Can't find a code anywhere!!!! Your help is much appreciated! Thanks

    you want to know if your engine is mazda or not and what type of engine is? if you look behind the exhaust manifold near the trans you will see some letters and numbers some mazda engines only uses letters like BP

Some engines have serial numbers on most awkward places, but they're still visible when in the original car. Try a mirror and a lamp - but you'll have to steam clean the engine. Or, get an OBD scanner, connect it to the engine and maybe you'll find out the engine number that way.
