How does the Mazda rotary engine work?

Will this engine work or fit in my1995 mazda protege dx dohc 1.6 it looks like my engine idk what im doing?

  • make . mazda model. protege engine code . BP... Valve train: DOHC 1.8 Liter Mileage: Approx 25-35 Thousand Condition: Best Transmission: 5 Speed

  • Answer:

I am having a few problems answering this question, because according to my info there was no 1.6 engine in a protege in 1995. If the engine you have now is one of the B family engines it should work. If not, and provided you have a five speed (I am assuming the transmission is included with the package) is should install. There may be a few other parts needed like throttle cable. You may need to change engine control parts or the ECM to match. If your transmission is an automatic, and you are swapping in an engine from a manual, expect low end torque to drop. The automatic engines have a low end torque cam (at expense of top end) and are common swaps for drivers to put in a manual engine that is turbo charged. TMI. Get a service manual, and read up on how to take the engine out and install it. The second link is for a VIN decoder to check out what the engine should be. I have never used it so do so at your own risk.
