When was dasara in 1977?

I want to muscle up a 1977 Lincoln Town car. How?

  • I know little about engines but I know one thing. The ride and luxury of the 1977 Lincoln Town Car is heaven on wheels. I found one in really good shape that runs, compression is right on the money 55,000 original miles for $3500 dollars. It's an estate sale. I know little about mechanics and I'm sure there will be a gazillion people who say I paid to much, blah blah blah. I gave the guy what he demanded and I got what I want. That's all that matters to me. Now that we've taken care of the critical nobodys lets get to the topic. I want to max out the two things about this car...one that I know everything about and one I know very little about. I want to up the look of this car...max out the paint, wheels, interior, upholstery...etc. I like comfort, and luxury this I know and the 1977 Lincoln Towncar has it all. Just needs a little pumping up. It also has a 460 engine which I've seen, in another car, hit 140 in a relatively short period of time. So I want to muscle up this part of the car and marry luxury with exhilarating speed. I've been told I'd have to beef up the suspension because the handling would be difficult with it's current suspension. Is that true? What about the transmission, drive line and rear differential. Some say it can take an upgrade of the motor, others say you have to rework everything down the line. The mechanics I know little about but I have friends that are all on board to help me do what I want to do. I'm looking for suggestions, pictures of mechanical work done on the 460 engine and/or a 1977 Lincoln town car maxed out the way I want mine to be. I need suggestions so I know what to tell others I need to make this a SUPER CAR. Can you help me?

Just remember you're working with a 6000lb car ;-) First off find ye a set of 429 heads. A grunt cam and decent carb and you're pretty much good to go. The 460 is a torque motor and the heads are it's choke point. Don't look for big RPM out of it. That vintage block is stronger than the late model 460 truck blocks too !
