My back lights on my 93 lincoln won't come on?

  • My back lights on my 93 Lincoln won't come on until I step on the brakes. .I check the bulbs, one bulb looked to be burned out but then the light came back on, but even now the back lights won't come on

  • Answer:

Are you talking about back-up lights ?? or break lights ??, If back-up lights out and you have checked the bulbs and they are OK , Then check your neutral safety switch , hope this helps.

Please organize and correct your QUESTION to better describe your Lincoln's back lighting problem. On the rear of your Lincoln you should have 2 (red or orange) tail lights when the headlights are turned "ON". You should have 3 red brake lights when the ignition key is "ON" and the brake pedal is pressed. You should have 2 white back up lights "ON" when the ignition key is "ON" and the transmission is in REVERSE = "R". You should have 2 small white lights to illuminate the License Plate when you have headlights "ON" and lgnition key in "RUN". Where exactly, is your problem with "back lights" not coming on?

Well yeah...........duh! When did you think your brake lights would come on? You can't step on the brakes and then rush to the back of the car and expect them to still be on. Kind of like, Why does the light in the fridge go out when I close the door?

those first 3 answers were pretty bad they obviously don't know a Lincoln Mark VIII . That is a common problem and there are problem a few other things acting up. Sorry to say but never figured it out and its probably not worth the time and money. If you really want them back rewire them from the tail lights off the corners they should still be working. You probably should have explained in your question that its your tail lights not your stop lights but most don't know what the MK8 tail light arrangement looks like or how they work.

Since you already pulled the tail light assembly, go ahead and replace the bulbs, but the problem is probably your brake light switch, it's located under your dash, above the brake pedal. They aren't expensive.
