What is the difference between a citizen and a civilian?

What's the difference between U.S citizen and U.S legal resident?

  • I'm looking at the ASVAB preparation test online and its saying are you a U.S citizen or U.S legal resident and foreign i was born in the U.S so idk what one im supposed to pick could any one lend me a hand?

  • Answer:

You are a US citizen if you were born in the US. Legal permanent residents are foreign citizens who have legally immigrated and hold a green card allowing them to live permanently in the US.

Other answers

A U.S. citizen is an "American." He or she has a U.S. passport. A U.S. legal resident is a foreigner. He or she has a Green Card and a foreign passport.

US citizen is well a citizen of the United States of America While a US resident is basically a foreigner who was given a green card and allowed to live here permanently but is not a citizen. If you were born in the US you are a US citizen.

Anti Censorship

If you were born here, you're a citizen. A legal resident is someone who was born elsewhere, and has the official status of it being legal for them to live here (as opposed to being here illegally, or having a travel visa for a limited time, or similar status). Citizenship can't be taken away, where other status can; citizens can vote, no one else can.
