Is LEXUS LS400 any good?

92' Lexus LS400 $3700 good deall help me!!!?

  • im going to check out this ls400 for 3700 at a dealership sounds like a good deal to me what questions should i be asking

  • Answer:

To me, that seems like a good/fair price. Questions I would ask would be: Do you have the CARFAX report? Can I see/have it? How many owners? How many miles? (obviously but remember, these cars can go for a very long time) Maintenance info/records? (in CARFAX usually) I recently bought a '95 Lexus SC400 (link below) for $7989 w/ 129k miles on 5-31-07. I didn't really ask that many questions like I should have probably but it was a one owner and garage-kept so I was sold on it. It was in really nice condition inside and out. The engine (1UZ-FE) is the same in both the LS400 and SC400 (4.0L V8) and the engine is widely-known in various car forums to be an extremely solid and reliable engine, normally going 300k-500k+ miles. Toyota spent about $400,000,000 in research and development for this engine. The only thing I would add is that if you get it maintained at Lexus, it will be very expensive. If you do the work/labor yourself and buy the parts, you will save a lot of money and learn something in the process. I plan on maintaining most of my own SC if I can because I really can't afford the high prices of the maintenance/service at a Lexus dealership ($1,000+). I would recommend the same or take it to a trusted mechanic.

Check mileage, tyres also. You should have an idea how much you might have to spend on maintenance immediately, that will add to the cost.

The only question you need to ask is if you can take the car to your mechanic(preferably a Lexus technician) and have a thorough inspection performed. Because a salesman will tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear so he can make the sale. You want to make sure the car is up to date on all recommended maintanence (ask for reciepts or proof, don't just take their word for it), have the suspension checked, the front lower ball joints may be loose and this can be a safety issue, and you will want to check for leaks(rear main oil seal and valve cover gaskets are most common). If after you have the car inspected it is found to be in great condition, then $3700 is a great deal. The LS400 is a terrific car and if properly maintained I'm sure you will love it.
