whats the difference between the 2010 jeep rubicon 4x4 and the 2010 jeep wrangler sport 4x4?

Answer:
In order to give a wrangler sport the same capabilities as a rubicon, it would take about $10,000 in work with aftermarket parts. A stock Wrangler has, I believe, a Dana 30 front axle and a Dana 35 rear axle with open differentials. The Rubicon has Dana 44 axles front and rear with, as previously mentioned, electronic lockers. What all that means, to someone who isn't into the whole automotive aftermarket and customization hobby, is this. Dana 44 uses a larger ring and pinion gears (which are what transfer power to the tires from the driveshaft), as well as thicker axles. This means they are less likely to break under tough situations. An electronic locker is a device that locks (hence the name) the left and right wheels together so that they alway sturn the same speed under low traction conditions. Normal 4 wheel drive is actually just 2 wheel drive...1 wheel on the front axle will spin if it loses traction, same with the rear axle. With lockers, that is impossible to happen. The Rubicon also sits something like 2" taller and runs larger diameter tires, which gives more ground clearance. The tires are also more aggressive for better traction in off-road situations. Also, something I was unaware of, was the 4:1 transfer case low range. What this means is, for offroad use only, if you are climbing a steep hill, you need to multiply torque. Low range is when you can reduce how fast the tires will turn in any gear at a set engine speed. So a 4 to 1 transfer case means that, if you're doing 10mph in first gear in high range (which is always 1:1), if you put it in low range, you would be doing 2.5mph at the same engine speed. Lastly, the Rubicon also has a wide array of skidplates and sliders and other armor installed. This protects vital components like the transmission, engine, and other things from damage from rocks. Oh, and I almost forgot...the Rubicon has 4.10:1 axle gears, meaning for every 1 rotation of the tire, the driveshaft has to turn 4.1 times. A standard Wrangler uses around a 3.55:1, meaning you turn less RPM for each MPH in the standard Wrangler, but don't have the same power, just like the transfer case scenario. For a basic run-down, An electronic locker for 1 axle is about $800. 4.10 gears are about $200 per axle. Installation is roughly $250 per axle. The transfer case change would be about $500 The tires are about $1000-1200 for 4, so about 1500 for all 5. An engine skidplate is about $400 Transmission skidplate about $200 transfer skidplate another $150. Add it all up, and you get...about $6000, plus the fact that it's all covered under a factory warranty.

The Rubicon has better axles (Dana 44), bigger tires, and a 4:1 low range in the transfer case as well as front and rear electric lockers, electronic disconnecting sway bar, and rock rails. The other JK models have lesser parts though the X model can be purchased with a rear locker. Unless you actually off road and have a need for the 4:1 low range the Rubicon isn't for you. Most people buy them to say that they have one.
