What were the beliefs of the Democratic-Republicans?

Are you supposed to go along with a schizophrenics beliefs or not?

  • my best friend had a very bad mental break down 2 years ago and now is currently stable on tablets but he is nowhere near normal or how someone should behave. He has very strong religious beliefs and we don't know whether we tell him it is a load of junk or not becuas the gets very angry and has fallen out with us many times because we don't share the same beliefs. I don't have a problem with his illness or beliefs, its just the fact that he thinks he knows the truth and everyone else's beliefs don't count. It affects his life greatly e.g. he won't watch Shrek simply because there are witches in it, which are against his beliefs. In our house we have several flags on things e.g. cushions, coasters simply as decoration but he believes are wrong as you should not idolise your country and knocks them on the floor - this is not how a human should behave He sometimes prays in our house, we do not accept that(don't involve people in your beliefs when they don't want to know) and he is very homophobic which makes me upset beuase many of my friends are gay. he just doesn't understand how to cope in a real life social situation, do we go along with his beliefs in order to not upset him or tell him to sort it out because he cannot go on this way.

Well I tried to tell a family member who is schizophrenic when they were having an episode that what they were talking about wasn't real or true.. Your better going along with it and get them admitted to the hospital

There are a few things that you need to come to grips with..... One. You can not change what he believes. Two. You can not expect a schizophrenic to act like a normal person. Once you accept those then you can set some boundaries for when he is around you..... tell him that he is free to believe whatever he wishes but that you do not want him to attempt to involve you in his beliefs, then tell him that he is not to hurt or damage things that do not belong to him. You can't stop him from believing as he does and you likely can not get him to be quiet about it. He is a schizophrenic... he is NOT a normal person and you can't expect normal behavior.

The best solution is to very calmly tell them when they are not arguing with you that you don't agree with all of his ideas and beliefs but that you have the right to hold your views just as he does. These things will be totally real to him, even more real that you are so don't expect him to understand they are not real, ever, even when well on medications. If he sets off down the road he follows keep deadly quiet and say absolutely nothing ignore this stuff. If he then mentions it then you remind him of the conversation you had before and ask him to change the subject to a less contentious one so you won't argue. He should be capable of doing that with you. If not then I question whether he's taking his medication, or all of it, or it's stopped working. It's easy to very gently and calmly say I'm sorry that I do not share your views or beliefs so we must agree to differ. Most schizophrenics will respond well to that without getting angry. Introduce a new subject to talk about fast. It is right not to contradict them openly as that may make them angry and upset and falling out over this could have a bad outcome. It's great that you are still friends and spend time with him, schizophrenics often have no friends at all. You obviously care about him too.
