What are the symptoms of ADD in teens?

Question about ADD symptoms?

  • I've always had some problems with daydreaming, as well as some problems focusing. But as of late, it's becoming a problem with schooling. I can't pay enough attention to my teachers when they're explaining something, and I really can't focus enough to finish my homework. I naturally have a quick temper, but I have a handle on it. I am also extremely irritable. I am also, very disorganized and I when someone is asking a question I always cut them off to answer it, because if I already know what they're asking, it bothers me to waste time and let them finish. I already set an appointment with a psychiatrist. My only worry is that I might think I have ADD when I might not. My boyfriend has ADHD; I've seen him zone out during a conversation and how he can't seem to sit still. I don't really have those problems.. and I know that he has the Hyperactivity part, so maybe that's the difference. Is there anyone out there with ADD who experiences similar symptoms to me? Or do I just have symptoms that seem like ADD and I don't actually have it. Your answers will help me alot, so thanks!

  • Answer:

That sounds like a form of ADD. The only other thing that I can think of is that it could be what I have, which is called Maladaptive Daydreaming. It's a condition that causes excessive daydreaming. The daydreaming is often elaborate and detailed, like a book or movie. Take a look at this website to learn more: http://www.daydreamingdisorder.webs.com/ Obviously, no one can diagnosis you over the internet. Your best bet is to tell your psychiatrist ALL your symptoms; spill your guts to them. By the way, if you think that you might have Maladaptive Daydreaming, make sure that you take some information about it into the doctor, as they might not yet have heard of it. It is only now just beginning to be studied. Hope this all helps, and you can write me (by clicking on my name) if you want to ask me any questions.

I have ADD, and I have all the same symptoms as you. If it's becoming an issue with school, then it's a PROBLEM, even if you don't have ADD.
