Where is the radiator cooling fan fuse?

96 Cherokee, Replaced Cooling Fan, wont start?

  • I found out why I was having heating problems today while on the trail, my radiator cooling fan was siezed up and making the truck smell like burning plastic, peanut butter, and it was getting real hot on the trails. So I headed over to Autozone and picked up the last one they had in stock, then before I left autozone, I unplugged the fan plug so the fan wouldn't keep burning and making the smell on the way home. I get home, replace the fan in no time at all, then the truck wont start. It turns over but neither the fan or the truck will start up. I've checked and tried everything, tried jumpstarting it, checked all connections and fuses. The only thing I can think of is I shorted something out by unplugging the fan or when I plugged in the new fan with the battery still connected. Not sure, and its a long shot, but its all I got right now, and I was wondering if there was a fuse or relay to the cooling fan I can check or where it is, or if its also connected to something essential for the vehichle to start. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

yes, fusible links must be replaced. basically, think of a fusible link as the "weakest link". they make the wiring system, they calculate in all the fuses, and then they take the spot closest to the starter or battery, (some juntion at the starter) and add in a short segment of smaller wire. this is done so that if it were to overload, the failure will happen exactly where they wanted it to. they are about 8 bucks, and you crimp them in place, and then solder them, and wrap them as waterproof as possible.
