Suggestions for a unique number plate?

Willy's number look up!! Picture included! Help!?

  • I have this old 50s Willys pickup. It is rotted out in many places and there is no registration, manual, etc. I tried looking everywhere for a VIN number, cant seem to find one. If you have any suggestions please let me know!! I found it was last inspected in 1976, and it was assembled in Toledo, Ohio. It also has a gross HP of 72 at 4000 RPM Here is a link to a picture of the Warranty plate from Willys Overland Motors: http://img717.imageshack.us/i/photo521y.jpg/ the number reads: 473-4WD 13588 obviously the 4WD means its a 4WD. Help!! I'm trying to find out any information i can about this thing!

    As near as I can figure it, the 473-4WD-13588 is the "VIN" for this Jeep. If you go to http://www.public.asu.edu/~grover/willys/serial.html And go down to 1950 you will find that the 473-4WD is a specific model of Willy's made in 1950 because the sequential number falls into the number range specified. Remember that old cars do not follow modern vin number formats.
