Add towing package to used Jeep Cherokee?

• We are looking into buying a used 98-00 Jeep Cherokee and we need it to have a towing package. Is it possible to add a towing package if we find a good car without the towing package? How much would it probably cost to add the towing package? Thanks

  You can add a tow hitch for cheap. However, a tow package had a stronger rear axle (Chrysler 8.25) a lower gear ratio (3.73) probably an np 231 transfer case, a transmission cooler maybe? So to add the towing package like that it's way more than it's worth. Depending on what you're towing though, pretty much all the options in those years are going to be okay with just adding a hitch.
