Is a 2000 Jeep Grand cherokee with 130k Miles a good first car?
-
I was browsing craigslist and saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee, Iv'e been wanting one for awhile. The price is $4300, But i wil try to talk them down to $3900 This is the description: Not too late, but don't wait. Make someone's holiday a happy one! First item up for sale is my Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. When I tell you this vehicle is in emaculate shape, I mean it! Being a female, I am picky. It spent part of its life in mild climates so you don't have the rust that is often the case on jeeps. It is black with taupe interior. Not one rip or tear. I notced a couple little hairline cracks on the drivers seat the other day, none on the passenger seat. I don't think the person before me had any friends, because I swear the psgr seat was never sat in! It has everything...including heated seats and a sunroof! There are 130,000 gentle miles on it. I REALLY hate to sell it but I don't have a choice. I recently lost my job so ... Daughter's birthday, Christmas and that pesky mortgage are all motivating factors. I will have another one day! Ok to call if you are SERIOUS Merry Christmas and have a blessed holiday season! Does anyone know if its a good buy?

Answer:
I LOVE JEEPS! I've had 5 of them in 35+ years! Gas mileage is never good! but, the JEEP makes up for it, in DEPENDABILITY!!! NEVER BY A FOREIGN CAR!!!! I've seen several of them 'CRASHED', W/O THE passengers been hurt! ( 1 of them was my grand son)! He would have 'died', in another type of 'vehicle'!

You might want to look at it first... but I am looking into to Jeep's myself but Jeep Liberty's. I love most Jeeps... the style and everything... it's big so that's a good first car. But again LOOK at it FIRST. Test drive it and all to make sure you really like it. Hope this helps:)

Check Consumer Reports for reliability. You'll find it is below average. Nice story she posted. The thing is a heap!

The 'Grand Cherokee was a very expensive car, so has all sorts of expensive things that will go wrong and cost a lot. The automatic is bad enough, but the differential is weak, the axles go bad because they are the inner bearing races, and the whole front differential, transfer box, and drive shafts, add over 500 extra pounds you do not need. Why get 15 mpg when you can get a less expensive 2 WD car or minivan that gets 26 mpg? Other than that, the age, miles and price are ok. But meet at a shop and have a mechanic look it over.
