Why are Land Rovers regarded by so many to be such great offroad vehicles?

I am a proud owner of a Discovery and a range rover. They are designed for offroading but they are the only vehicles that has captured both the hearts of serious offroaders and on road jetsetters everywhere and that's a fact. Land Rovers have been tp places where billions of people have never seen a vehicle or the only ones they've seen are these trucks. They go to the farthest places of the earth, cross deep rivers , extreme weathers etc. The red cross will not use them if they are not that good offroaders. Check out videos in youtube and see how good they are. And once again my 9 year old Discovery crawled thru the 24 inches of snow in Chicago like nothing.

what do you get if you cross a jeep with a dog? Answer ,a land rover. Joking aside I had a new Range Rover in 1972 and it was a good car and good on and off road and apart from the poor build quality was reliable, and I need a reliable workhorse. As the years have gone by the Range Rover and its kin have become much less good, I live in the U.K. and would love to be patriotic but cannot afford the down time that poor reliability costs. I maybe should run Toyota Land Cruiser but run Jeeps since the early 1980s and have had no problems, the last Grand Cherokee cost in repairs for its last ten years was a mere 1000 pounds, perhaps ive been lucky but i do look after them. And they are driven hard

the new ones are not that good off road, just like the hummers, The old ones were very off-road capable but the ones made today aren't as capable.

Says who?

They have the greatest 4 x 4 technology there is and they continue working on them up until now. One breakthrough was the terrain response system where you can adjust the car's response to different road conditions later on copied by jeep naming it selec terrain and soon by ford explorer. What does that tell you?
