How do you change the headlight on a Jeep Wrangler?

WHEN TO CHANGE THE OIL FOR THE FIRST TIME FOR NEW 2011 JEEP WRANGLER?

  • I have Jeep Wrangler Sahara 2011. Manual says that oil change has to be done every 8.000 miles. I called Jeep dealer and they said every 3.000. Who to believe?

  • Answer:

Check the color of the oil on your dipstick. Is it very black? Totally non-see through? Also wipe the dipstick oil with your index finger and thumb and rub your fingers together. If it is very black and drags or feels gritty, it's time to change. Synthetic oil is the standard on these new vehicles. Non synthetic oil is the 3000 mile interval.

Pay attention to the manual. The guys at the dealership are just trying to sell you service you don't need. A 3000 mile interval for oil changes with today's modern engines and modern oil it completely unnecessary. I may not go 8000 miles on the very first oil change but every one after that I would. Just like "lather, rinse and repeat" is unneccesary. All that does is use up twice as much shampoo so you have to buy it more often.

Manual, unless Jeep has service updates like Advisories, Alerts, Tech Service Bulletins, etc, that say diff, and if so, you wana see em. Or unless you'r in a desert area w/ a lota dust, etc, or under other severe conditions. From what I understand, a 3k oc is way outdated unless special factors apply. Always take it to Jeep for all maint & most repairs. They'l run your VIN on their Jeep-only database of service updates [or should. Be sure to ask em to]

Whenever you have a new vehicle, its a good idea to change it at 1,000 miles to get rid of any metal shavings or anything from the factory, after that every 3,000 to 5,000 and your engine will run forever. Its cheap insurance, just do it.

Actually both are correct. Most modern oils can protect your engine, and maintain your warranty, for the 7,500 -8000 miles recommended by the manufacturer, however many "old school" mechanics feel that changing it more often, like every 3000 miles gives you better protection. It really doesn't matter as long as you do one or the other. What you can afford to do may be a determining factor, but keep the receipts as proof in case you should ever have a warranty issue. Enjoy your new Jeep.

Change the oil at 3000 miles. When you do this you will see metal shavings don't worry about this. Changing the oil soon flushes these out the system so they do not get into the bearings and cause a catastrophic failure. After about 5-6 oil changes and you still see metal you should get it checked out. Remember to change the filter if you DIY.

Me MEE is better than you

For a lot of off-road or urban jungle driving go with 3k. For mostly highway go with 5k. My dealer gives me 4 changes for $40 prepaid ($10 an oil change!). It's not synth but it is factory recommended. Everytime I bring it in they also top-off fluids and check tires, undercarriage, etc., etc. Can't beat it with a stick.

I change mine every 5,000 miles
