Pros and Cons of Buying a Jeep Wrangler?

  • I'm am looking into buying my first car and i have been thinking a lot about buying a wrangler. i was thinking about getting the 2.4l or 2.5l because i dont really think i need a 4.0l engine in my car. From what i heard i can get better mpg. I dont plan on towing anything very big or anything like that. Can someone give me some advice on if this is a good car to buy? I will mostly be doing basic city and some highway driving but no really long road trips

    Pros: They are fun to drive! They are awesome in the summer with the top off! Driving a Jeep is like being a part of the family (The Jeep Wave) They are great for offroading! They are easy to fix and get parts for. Cons: Bad gas mileage Hard ride (especially if you lift it and get larger tires) Noisy Once you get the bug you want to spend, spend, spend!! LOL Just Empty Every Pocket I have spend Thousands on my Jeep, but I do wheel it quite a bit and when I do I don't baby it. My Jeep is no where near stock anymore and has lots of custom upgrades to it. I got the bug and got it BAD!!! So you can spend a lot if you want to, there are so many things you can do to your Jeep. As for which one, personally I would go with the 4.0L 6cyl engine. The 4 banger may be better on gas but they are very sluggish when trying to get up to speed. Also, if you ever do get the offroad bug and want to upgrade tires and gearing you will want the better engine. Third point is that the 4.0L will last FOREVER if you keep the fluids filled and get the oil changed regularly. As for everyone who say they roll. After ten years and just as many wheeling, I have never personally seen a Jeep roll. Just remember, it is not a sports car, so don't drive it like one!!

A Wrangler with a 4 banger is probably ok but I wouldn't consider anything but a 4.0L. Those things are near bullet proof. Lots of torque and you can get 20 on the highway with a manual transmission. If you want something with great gas mileage eat beans and ride a bike. :oD

Awesome, easy to control, really simple, I love em. Bad part. You see something in the Jeep Mag and you have to get it. Just one of those things

They are a lot of fun if you don't mind dealing with the top. They don't drive very well, very bumpy and seats are uncomfortable. Offroad though, nothing is better. Your right, you don't need the bigger engine unless you are putting big tires on it. If you are not completely in love with the wrangler, don't get it. Personally, I've had two and loved every mile.

I recently sold my Jeep Cherokee. It was 2 wheel drive which I preferred since it entails less problems. If its a soft time its prone to break-ins. Horrible gas mileage. The gas mileage is horrible along with the transmission if its a manual. The Clutch is sticky, but the good thing is that it will never fail. Most I ever had to fix is my water pump which cost me 60 bucks to do it myself. Why do you want a Jeep ? To be cool ? Think economically. Gas shoots up again your screwed. It might be cheap to fix but it sucks up gas like an alcoholic sucks up beer. Another question to ask yourself is, are you taking this offroading ? Do you hvae a need for 4 wheel drive ? Also just a reminder each tire depending if you get an all terrain or just a straight offroad tire will cost anywhere from 130-400 dollars per tire. I am being so negative because I had a Jeep and know what to expect. They are good to beat on. Thats it.

Wranglers are a lot of fun! Stay away from 1987-1996 YJ's. They are junk! The 4 banger is a bit gutless for me. I have one and it can't get out of it's own way on the freeway or up a hill. The 4.0 in-line 6 is the way to go. I own a 1979 CJ-7 V8 (my first car and THE BEST JEEP) 1991 YJ POS 4 banger (used only for flat desert cruising) 2005 Unlimited Rubicon (built for rock crawling) 1961 Willy Wagon (just an old toy waiting for my son to be old enough to reach the pedals) 1946 CJ-2A ranch vehicle
