2002 Jeep Liberty Malfunction Indicator Light?
-
The Malfunction Indicator Light has been coming on intermittently in my 2002 Jeep Liberty. Recently, I was leaving for work and noticed really bad acceleration, to the point where I waited for the biggest gap in cars ever to pull out of my neighborhood. On the freeway, my RPMs were running really high, so I called the dealership for a diagnostic. I went in today and had a diagnostic done, which came up with code "P-0846 2C Pressure Switch Sense" listed on the paperwork I received. Most of what they said to me was kind of greek, but the gist of it was that there's something wrong with the transmission and the shifting mechanism, and that it's going to be $700 or so to fix. They offered to make the repair today, but I wasn't willing to make the decision without additional information and possibly a second opinion/estimate. Has anyone else experienced this, know what that code means, and had it repaired with less expense?

Answer:
Hello, On 04/18/07 the Malfunction Indicator light came on, and has not gone off. I called my Jeep dealership and ask questions. I was told that it could be something very simple or very complicated. I first read my owner's Manuel for my 2002 Liberty and it sounded pretty serious. The dealership said; If the light is not blinking it is probably OK, but I need to have it checked. As of today I have not noticed any change in the way my 2002 Jeep runs. I have 51,000. miles on it, and I service it as recommended. Did you light start out staying on all the time? 04/20/07 - I went home last night and I disconnected my battery, after 10 min. I re-connected the battery. The light did not come on again. I started the Jeep 4 additional times, about 1 hour in between. Also this morning when I started it to go to work the light was not on! I knew by disconnecting the battery it would re-set all of the sensors. I do not know why the light came on, the jeep runs fine. Also, I had about 1/2 tank of gas yesterday and after doing the battery thing I went and topped the tank off with medium grade gasoline. Good luck! :)

I have never expirenced this problem but definately get a second opinion. Dealerships typically overcharge for service. most likley you can get it cheaper somewhere else.
