Turbo for honda civic ex coupe 1998?

So i plan on getting the Edelbrock Performer X Turbo Kit and to my knowledge has everything you need in a turbokit. its about 3400 dollars. i saw in a forum that i should put the tubo kit on my stock vtec motor. should i do this or switch my engine out to a b16.

Answer:
a D series will do but a B series is better, get a nice B series DOHC b16 if you are doing a lot of boost, like 14 psi. b18 for more displacement but thinner cylinder walls so id stick will less boost, like 5-10psi. and for maximum displacement you could get a b20z2 from a honda crv, but they have thinner cylinder walls, but nice 2.0 liter displacement, they can handle boost but id stick with 5psi and under. make sure you do something with your pcv system, look into a "smog pump" corvettes use them to create negative or neutral pressure in their crank case to help performance, and on a boosted motor you want to suck as much blow by as you can, the smog pump makes a open air system, so if you have to pass emissions testing you have to get a pcv system made for boost. plus blow by gasses are laden with oil particles, fuel, water, and other nasty stuff that you don't want in your engine, turbine, or intercooler. it can clog stuff up, and cause detonation because it lowers the ocatine rating of gas. also don't worry about finding a v-tec B series if you so choose, because its not really worth it on forced induction engines, also if you get the money buy a hondata intake manifold, and hondata or some other type of engine management system so you can tune for boost.

if its a D series motor it will probably blow up cuz it just cant handle the boost so i would definitely get a B series motor and it would be so much faster too and one more thing i would change out the internals on what ever motor you get to be safe make sure it can handle boost

The B16 has more potential than the D16, If you did the swap however it would cost you more money to get to the same power as your current motor with the turbo. I guess it comes down to how much you plan to do in the future. You could always get the edelbrock kit and later on put forged internals in the D16, then you can put on a bigger turbo and run higher boost. Personally I would stick with your current motor.

You can run about 6-8 psi safely on your stock D16 engine. Getting a B16 would be better to boost but your stock D16Y8 is fine. Everyone is always telling you that this or that is better and they are right, but your engine with a turbo is good also and will deliver the goods for less. If you have the extra money for the swap and and turbo kit, go with the B16. If you don't, a turbo kit on a D16Y8 is fine.
