What is progressive shifting?

What is DBW and how does it affect shifting on 09' Civic Si?

• OKay i been reading articles about DBW and how it affects shifting. People dont like how shifting is with this DBW, but what is it? I have no idea what DBW stand for and how it affects my car. What are the possitive things about having it, negative things? How is it better from non DBW and how is it worse?

  On the case of the SI it has a bit of delay #SOMETIMES#. Just add a delay for the response of the throttle. Lets put a number on the delay, what about 1 second. One second will take to accelerate everytime you floor it and one second to began closing the throttle when you release the gas pedal. This last part is the most annoying thing on my SI. Honda programmed in that way because helps on the emissions. There is a tecnical sheet about the K20Z3 that explains that. DBW isn't a bad thing, if you have control over it. Imagine an engine that you can be @ wide open throttle by just pressing the gas pedal just a little bit. An engine that when it detects overboost or detonation and the throttle doesn't allow to accelerate harder to protect it. There are many things that can be done with DBW that you can't do with steel wire. In the case of the Civic there is not a ECM out there that allow you to take control over the DBW. Not yet....
