Where to find Oil?

Where do I find the place to put in motor oil in my 1992 Honda accord?

  • I admit I do not know much about cars. My car light keeps reminding me that I must check the oil levels but I'm not sure what hole that is. I see the transmission fluid hole, brake fluid, even the wind shield wiper hole, but the thing that could be it I'm not 100% about because It says huile oil and it doesn't look a funnel could go right in. I ask because I am in desperate need of an oil chAnge but the car won't start all the way due to me being low on oil. It'll crank up but not enough to take off.so in order for me to get there I need to start the car,so does anyone know that model well enough to lead me in a better direction? I've looked online but alot of places suggest oil changes but I need to be able to start it first. Please, no jackass answers.

  • Answer:

    1. lift up bonnet(hood) 2. left hand side of rocker cover(has HONDA written on it) there should be a black cap that has a picture of an oil can on it make sure you dont put too much in or the car will smoke like a chimney. but to me it seems like your car is burning oil if the car is a v-tec this is a common problem but not a costly one bring it to your local mechanic. if he knows about hondas he should know that when this happens it can burn 1 ltr of oil every 1000miles. if you get that sorted you wont have the oil problem any more.

How long have you been using the car without oil in it? You should never use the car when lights start to appear, let alone the oil light! You could well of seized the engine (ruined it). On any mainstream car, the oil filler cap is situated on the top of the actual engine. It should have a picture of an oil can.

Definitely don't drive a car with bad or low oil. The cap is usually black and in the middle on the engine block with an oil can on it that should look like your oil light; if its a symbol and not just "Oil"

Putting oil in now is useless, no offense. If the light just came on, that's one thing, but if you've driven it for more than a few minutes with the oil light on, you might as well junk the car, because that's what it's worth now. The engine needs oil at all times, or it gets metal on metal contact, and when that happens, things start siezing up and breaking. In your case, the engine still turns, so it's not totally siezed yet, but it won't spin freely enough to start, which means the bearings are gone, and as such, so is the engine. Spend $500 for a junkyard engine (plus labor to put it in), $2000+ to have the engine rebuilt, or buy a different car.

It sounds like your engine is about to seize. An oil change would be useless at this point. You need to have your car towed to a shop (not Jiffy Lube). If the engine will barely run because there is no oil in it, it might be damaged beyond repair. Whatever you do, don't try to start your car again. If you start your car and try to drive it (even after adding oil), any chance you had of saving your engine will be gone. Again, have your car towed to a shop, and have a certified mechanic look at it.

While I agree with most of the posts that say your engine might be done for, and the ones that say tow it, I know that even a tow bill can be more than some people want to face... they are still giving you good advice, but if you want to try to add oil and start it one more time, here goes... That year honda is a bit of a tank, and you may have a small chance... When you have the hood open and you are standing in front of the car, there is a large (usually black) sort of rectangular piece of metal that has the Honda "H" logo, "16 Valve" and "HONDA" raised in the metal on it. That is the "valve cover" - the cap you remove to add oil is the largish cap to the right on this cover. It unscrews to the left. Just to the right and slightly closer to the front of the car of that cap is the "dip stick" where you check the oil level. You want to make sure you have the right amount, not too little or too much. Add one quart of 10w30 motor oil and check the dip stick by pulling it out, wiping it off, putting it back in all the way to the same place you pulled it out, and checking to see if the oil is between th hi and lo marks on the stick (this is down at the end opposite of the loop you used to grab it - sometimes they say hi / lo, sometimes they are just two holes or notches about an inch apart) the one closer to the loop/handle is hi. If nothing shows up at all yet, add another quart and repeat the check on the dipstick, including the 2 part pull out, wipe, put back in, and pull out to check. Do this adding a quart at a time until the mark is between hi and lo. When you get it between hi and lo, you can try to start the car. Put the dipstick and cap back in first, of course. No matter what, running with oil that low has done some damage. If you plan on keeping the car, maybe get a motor that has not had it so rough from woodfins: http://www.woodfins.com/ And pay a "shade tree" mechanic in your area that knows Honda to swap it out for you. You can often find a good shade tree mechanic by asking around, checking bulletin boards in grocery stores, posting on the internet, or looking in a newspaper classified section.
