What should be looking into when buying a motorcycle?

Looking at buying my first motorcycle. What Victory bike would be the best choice for a first roadbike?

    It's unanimous (so far). 8^< Victorys are really beautiful. Cruisers are all about style. I can understand you wanting one. But you should see it as something to work up to, a gift you buy yourself after learning to ride, to celebrate learning to ride, perhaps without having an accident. 8^) My advice: Get yourself a nice used Honda Shadow 750, maybe 8-10 years old. Yeah, I agree, it's not as classy as a Victory, but it's a nice bike, very well-designed, very dependable and reliable, parts are cheap, A 750cc cruiser is not too big to learn on but big enough for a long freeway cruise (perhaps not as optimal for cruising as the Victory). You could find one for less than $3000. After six months or a year you can sell the Honda for about what you paid for it, and then go get your Victory. And it will be a victory! 8^)

Getting a damned expensive bike to start out with is a bad idea. A new rider has a high percentage shot of being dropped in the first 90 days of ownership. With a Victory, there is nothing cheap about that event. A good used bike, if it's dropped will not rail your wallet near as hard. If your heart just has to have a Victory however, you need to answer your own question. It has nothing to do with the engine size, just the physical size. If the bike doesn't fit you and doesn't feel right when you sit on it, you need to keep looking.

NO Victory motorcycle would be even close to being a good choice for a novice rider. And insurance will cost you thousand$ for your first year.

To big, to powerful, to expensive. There's no shame in a smaller, less expensive bike to start off with.
