How to install a short shifter on a 1991 Honda Crx?

  • have a 1991 Honda Crx si and I'm looking at a short shifter on craigslist. I've talked to the seller and he knows it will fit my car (the crx has a b18a1 engine swap). In the picture al he has is the shifter, so I'm wondering if that is all I'm going to need since he works on Hondas and knows it will fit. I'm not sure if theres supposed to be any other parts like bushings or anything like that. Also, is it true that aluminum shifters are garbage and will break? I'm not sure if this shifter is aluminum or not, but its a metallic red color if that helps at all. I don't know much about cars so thats why I'm asking this question - thanks for your time

  • Answer:

Aluminum is weak, my friend bought an Ebay short shifter and it lasted for a few months until he shifted a little too hard and it started cracking. he taped it up and within a few days it broke right off. From what I remember, his short shifter did come with a boot for the shifter and some other stuff. Not too sure, though. If you want my advice, and it's just my advice, I'd go with a new, high quality short shifter from a good source. Usually, what you pay is what you get.
