Is it safe to shift from d to d3 while cruising at high speed?

  • I have 2006 honda civic automatic transmission engine.

  • Answer:

If it is a 4-speed transmission, then yes it shouldn't hurt anything, just make your engine rev higher. If you are going REALLY fast, then it might hurt your engine, but I doubt the computer would let it downshift in that situation until the car slowed.

This particular car will not allow the lower gear to engage if the engine speed is too high so it wont hurt it. This is not true on all cars in an older model you could over rev the engine causing damage.

Yes. That is just going up a gear. It will save gas too.
