What are good brands of cheaper lowering springs?

What would be a better setup for my 1990 civic lowering springs or full coilovers and what r the top 3 brands?

  • Answer:

to the guy yammering on about front wheel drive, I guess you must not be familiar with a short arm long arm suspension, where the front of ED/EF civics actually gain camber when the suspension is compressed, putting more tire to the road. Yea, FWD doesn't handle :P ANYWAY, to answer the question, Full coilovers are absolutely the way you want to go, unless its a shock / spring matched combo like the Koni - Ground Control set up. The Koni/GC combo is by far the most popular, other good names are Progress for full coilovers, PIC performance and K-sport, although they are all popular, I would steer away from the K-sports as they are a crummy design and usually have blown shock valves from being WAY over dampened on the street. If you want to be low and scrape over everything tho, get the K-sports, cause you'll be blowing shock bodys every year anyway.

To be honest, I don't think it'd be worthwhile investment. You could spend thousands of dollars on a coilover setup...but it's still front wheel drive, 18 years old, and a civic. Save the money for modifications to your next car. Lowering springs are just going to be stiffer, they won't help you handle much better, because your biggest limitation will be your fwd system. with coilovers, you might see a sliiiiight increase in handling ability....but again, front wheel drive. You're just looking to lower your car, aren't you? Just cut your springs. It's not like it's hard to find replacements if you screw it up and heat the springs up too much in the process.

No lowering spring are necessary on that model civic. the car is already low enough. save the money and get some 15" Drag or Rota wheels with 205/15 radial the car will not only look better, but it will also drive better.
