98 honda prelude help?

Honda Prelude Questions, please help!!?

  • I have been looking for a car, I have been looking at Honda's since I heard they are great on gas and reliable. Then I saw the Honda Prelude....It looks like the one, but I have a few questions. 1) Which type is better? (I think the types are SI & SH) 2) I saw a video of a 2001 Sh Prelude and the top speed was 240 mph and the guy said it was stock. Do the 2001 Sh's really go 240 mph? =D 3) What are the top speeds for the Sh's & Si's? ( I know this may be asking to much, sorry XP) 4) I am learning to drive Manual, which one would be better/faster. Manual or Auto? 5) And which year would have the V-TECH? 6) Whats so special about V-Tech? Thanks so much, I hope I didn't ask to many questions!!

    240 MPH! dang. thats nots even close. Il try to sum it up for you since ive had two preludes in the past two years. the Prelude SI can only be purchased if you buy it between 1989-1996. after that there is no prelude SI. this SI trim model never came with Vtec only the Prelude Vtec after 1993 came with Vtec (obviously) Unles it was JDM prelude in 1991 but im not going to get into that. A prelude Si's top speed is somewhere around 120 mph. Manual tranny is usually always better than an automatic. here is what some of the different generations in preludes look like 89-91 http://www.carsearch.com/photos/700576.jpeg 92-96 http://danielvaughan.com/new/car2.jpg 97-01 http://photos.ebizautos.com/6842/1786711_2.jpg a prelude SH trim was only available in 97-01, it means "super-handling". if i remember correctly and all preludes came with Vtec standard feature after 1997.

I would have to say SI is better, because the CRXs and Honda Civics that were SIs were the top models of their classes. It does not go 240 mph. Maybe in Kilometers :) Manual is the better choice, it allows a faster take off,and allows you to have control :) Depends on the car for which one has V-Tech. V-Tech allows for good bottom and top end power. Without V-Tech it pretty much blows..

Lol okay first off its V-TEC not V-TECH, (saying V-TECH is a pet peeve of many Loving Honda owners lol) 1) Which type is better? (I think the types are SI & SH) For 97-01 There are 2 types. The Base and the SH. The SH means "Super handling" and has ATTS (a tractions system that makes it beautiful around turns) and the SH is also manual. The base is just Automatic, both have around 200hp stock. 2) 240Mph? Top speeds? No, they do not go 240mph, you probably saw KMH. I own one and the max on the speedometer 160mph. (I have heard claims of people taking it on a track and getting it up to 150 mph with just intake/headers/exhaust) but definately not 240mph. 3) I am learning to drive Manual, which one would be better/faster. Manual or Auto? Definately get the manual prelude if you can drive manual. The SH is better around the turns and the manual is way more reliable (the Auto tranny on the 5th gens prelude are really bad...most owners have had them fail (including me) and only the 99-01 i believe have a 100k extended transmission warranty on them from Honda because of the numerous reports of problems) The only thing with the SH is that ATTS is disabled if you achieve i believe around 250whp. (But if your not doing any crazy expensive mods (Turbo, Supercharger, etc) you probably won't get close to that) So most people who go turbo usually buy a base and convert it to manual because it handles high amounts of HP better. 5) And which year would have the V-TECH? All the 97-01 Preludes had V-TEC 6) Whats so special about V-Tech? V-TEC is described by some as "mini-turbo" it gives you a decent amount or sudden burst of power usually around 5100Rpm's up till red line. The 97-01 Prelude's are DOHC VTEC engines.
