Cost of fuel pump installation for 1989 honda civic?

Does a 1989 Honda civic have a fuel pump switch?

  • So i have a 1989 Honda civic hatchback and the spark plugs are throwing sparks and the engine cranks but it won't start. I have had this same problem with a different car and the car had a fuel pump on/off switch that got bumped and turned it off. By any chance does the civic have this also?

  • Answer:

The '88-'91 Civic doesn't have a fuel pump cutoff switch. Try changing the main relay (under the dash near the fuse box). Have you tried spraying some starting fluid into the throttle body to fire it off? If it does fire, fuel pump is bad or the main relay has broken on the fuel pump side (it's common). If you still get no fire, check all grounds. The easiest one to miss is the one on the thermostat housing. Clean all your grounds and reattach them. Good luck.

turn the key to the on position but dont start it. listen carefully as you do this. do you hear a whirring sound for a couple seconds??? if not, then your fuel pump is not priming. if this is the case, here are the steps you should take. Check the fuel pump fuse (if there is one, sometimes there isn't), and check the ecu fuse. I'd bet it's the ECU fuse.
