The Check Engine light went on, on my 2000 Honda Civic 1.6?

  • Hi, The Check Engine light went on, on my 2000 Honda Civic 1.6, I did not notice any working trouble, except a slight lack of power when I drive in extreme conditions in the mountains. Did somebody experienced the same problem, and what could be the fault. Thanks for helping me. Bibifricoti

    Check Engine light = Please scan the engine code (light). It by itself means nothing === Go to Autozone and have the engine code scanned (free). Then come back with EXACT code and ask more question. Good Luck...

These Honda Si ECUs are not that complicated. Usually the check engine light is associated with the emission problems like cylinder not firing, bad spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, O2 sensor malfunction, or problem with Catalytic converter. I would change the spark plugs first, and go from there. Also driving with Check engine light would damage the Catalytic converter. so would minimize the driving.

take it to a dealer and they'll check it out with their scantool and they'll be able to tell you straight up. its probably a sensor occasionally dropping out of specs and logging a code in the ecm. its probably best to check it out before it drops its bundle completely. maybe disconnect and reconnect the battery and see if the light comes back on- you could get lucky and find that it was just a one off thing.

Is a service due ?? These lights tend to show that something needs to be checked on the motor - It could also be showing that you are driving in 'extreme' conditions , such as you described

first get the trouble code from auto-zone, then take a look at spark plug if nothing there , fuel injector cleaner
