Why won't my 1993 Honda Civic start?

1993 Honda Civic EX won't start?

  • My car has been having starting problems for a while. When I leave the car for too long like a full day without using it, it acts difficult, but usually starts if I charge the battery. However the battery is new so this is not the problem. Today when I tried to start it, it made the normal starting noises, but wouldn't start. It sounds fine and has plenty of power. I tried again every 5 & 10 minutes to see if it would work, but eventually it began sounding like it was choking, when I try to start it. The sound of it cranking is not steady like before. What could be the problem?

    If it makes ignition, it shouldn't be your battery unless you have a low battery indicator. Have you tried jump starting it? If it jump starts and runs fine it could either be your spark plugs, fuses, or distributor cap. I'm pretty sure its your distributer cap. It might have a crack in it, preventing the spark going through the coil to the spark plugs. Take it to a profession. If thats the case, get it replaced! Wooo that rhymes. Oh and the person below me, you wrong. It can't be the alternator. Because she said that it made the ignition noise. So if the battery is dead it would even start.

get new plugs. there not expensive and it will help. if nothing seems to work get your altinator checked at autozone or some were else. One more thing if nothing else works is get go somewhere and get a diognostics check and reprogram your car computer. If nothing works from there sorry. time to get a new motor

1 ALWAYS check your fuses #2 check for spark... if you get no spark the ignition control module (ICM) and the coil are probably bad #3 no fuel, turn the key to the "on" position and listen for a whirring sound.

Sounda like the alternator, starter or just the battery.
