Why won't my 1993 Honda Civic start?

My 1993 honda accord ex wont start after driving for so long.the coil gets hot and it wont start?

  • i can drive my accord for bout 30 minutes and cut it off. when i try to crank it again, it wont start.i replaced the coil, but it still gets pretty hot after running and i think its still gettin current when i take the key out cause it stays hot til i completely unplug it. then it starts to cool off, and it will start and run once its cooled off...i was told it was my distributor, but i wanna make sure incase its sumthin cheaper and easier to fix before i replace the distributor

  • Answer:

If the coil stays hot, you may have electrical issues where the coil is getting power when it shouldn't be...faulty ignition switch?...test for voltage at the coil with ignition off using a testlight or test meter...at least 9 volts but higher voltage can damage the coil/cause internal shorting from too much resistance/ heat. The problem could be from too high a voltage in the coil input wiring....it should be around 9 volts. Test alternator output as well. A no-start when hot could also be caused by a bad ignitor. This link offers help in diagnosing Honda ignitions... http://techauto.te.funpic.org/ignition.php The battery light coming on between shifts/low RPM's could indicate a weak alternator/loose belt or inconsistent alt output.

Anytime you have a battery or a charging system problem you must get that checked and resolved first before you do anything else first...if not you will be chasing a bunch of small problems that can be linked back to a faulty charging system. Good luck I hope this was helpful

you have either a short somewhere - or a bad relay somewhere

check the wiring seems you have a short, and getting feed back making the coil heat up
