Why will my 94 civic not start?

94 civic won't start?

  • Alright I have a 94 civic hatchback. One day it just didn't start but i never had any problem before that. I can turn the key, all the lights on the dash turn on and the OIL and BATTERY light stay on, but when i try to start it, it doesn't do anything, doesn't make any noise. I'm pretty positive it's not the battery, i charged it for a long time and headlights are strong, and I took the starter out and took it to my mechanic and he said that it was fine after testing it. So what's my next step? What do I check and how do I remove it, what am I looking for? Thank you

  • Answer:

did you take the battery cables off the battery and cleaned them up good? maybe it,s the neutral safety switch.

Check ignition wiring, solenoid, battery terminals and get the battery load tested and verify output current is sufficient (the auto chain stores usually do this for free). Try shorting the input terminals on the solenoid and if you have access to a voltmeter check voltage of battery above 12.8v should be enough (13+ is better). Bandit's got the next best idea with the NSS. Might be a dumb question, but did you turn the car off in gear? Do you register the same voltage at the starter's terminals? Is this vehicle equipped with an aftermarket alarm system? Is the ECM throwing codes? Brainfart Alert: I hope you've checked the fuses? If it's good, it's possibly the ignition switch. Sorry, this item should have been a little higher on the list.
