Ok, first off there are many B16's B16A1(A) is the older 88-91 OBD-0, so people tend to search for B16A2/3, some where made in the US but B16's are easy to find like some people stated. JDM/EDM motors have more HP for one they run 100octane in Japan and no cat's so a free better flowing motor. The GSR B18C(C1 in US) and the Type R B18C(B18C5 in US) have little bit more TRQ but to pay almost $1000-1500 more inst worth it. Ok on what you need is a 5-speed tranny hydro, full long block and ECU. Hasport.com motor mounts rywire.com OBD-2 to 1 jumper harness a set of socket tools and jackt extend the stock shift linkage or buy hasport.com one And research. The swap isnt hard if you can turn a wrench cost of a swap done right $2500-3000+labor. Engines could be found hmotorsonline.com Ok please before you swap go to turbod16.com because SOHC Vtec 1.6 motor isnt that bad and could be a monster if boosted and built.

maybe because the a2 is newer and usually has less mileage. you need the obd2 ecu or get the obd1 ecu with a jumper harness. you'll need the trans, mounts, axles, shift linkage, and ecu. use your stock wiring harness. it already has the vtec subharness.

because usdm b16a's are crap usually. if you get a JDM b16a out of an SiR civic it will have 10 more hp that the B16a2. you have have to get the right B16a. either way. a or a2 your going to end up with 160-170 hp and around 111-120lb of torque

you sre gonna need a shortened shift linkage and also all the vacuum hoses from the b16 including the EGR crap and all that good stuff plus you are gonna need to rewire them.and you might need a different downpipe .

I can't tell you why they recommend a different B16 over another, I'm not that knowledgable about them though. I'd go for an all out B18C1 or B18C5 - way more torque.
