Do you think art should be made for the artist or the art lover?(Details- Please share your thoughts.)?

I'm not just talking about visual art, I'm talking about all the arts, literature included. Do you think these arts are the 'property' of the owner or the 'property' of the apperciator? I'm intested to see what you think. Some people say art 'belongs' to the artist, they have the full expressed right to create the art in anyway they want (with the exception of something like a commision) and thus require no feedback from the veiwers. Others say the veiwer is the bread and butter, they consume the art, they should decide what they shovel down and the artist should be more than willing to accomedate them. What side of this arugment are you on? Personally for me as a writer, I have to say,I, as the artist, make art for myself, not for others. If they enjoy my art, then I'm happy, but my purpose in writing it was not to please others, but to perhaps recreate part of my soul in tangable form, and share that soul and the messages within it with the world in hopes that the world would see those messages differently, for the better. As a visual artist, I feel more relaxed about this, but I still care about my original vision. But in terms of things like video games, I feel this is all about the player and the experience, not the ride, but the driving. I should control what happens in this case? It should be my experiences, not the experiences of a book or a movie set in stone for one effect, but the one I make. I'm writing this in response to an article on Deviant art about the ending of Mass Effect 3...in which all the players 'input' that determined the endings were apparently ignored at the end of the game. Which disapoints me, as I planned to research the game for my own game design needs in the future, I guess, I won't need to do that anymore. Please share your thoughts.

Answer:
i share your opinion. as an artist, my work is based on my personal preferences, it is my personal taste that has created the style in which i draw and shade, nobody else's. so my art is solely made to please me, which to me seems fair being as i'm the one that looks at it the most from day to day. however, so i ever be hired to produce something, then the art created will be made for whomever hired me - the picture is no longer made in my interest but in theirs and i must make sure it conforms to their liking rather than mine. so in conclusion i would say that, art is made for the artist unless it is their job - then it is made for the client.
