Will a d16y8 tranny fit a d16z6?

Will a d16y8 valve cover fit a d16z6 engine? Can a d series valve cover fit all d series vtec engines?

  • I'm looking to buy this really nice valve cover that was off a d16y8. It looks very similar to the d16z6 engine I have in my del sol, I'm wondering if it would fit?

  • Answer:

Yes, it will fit. D16Y8 and D16Z6 parts are very universal. Note: what Abraham M said is not entirely true, for example: the older D-series engine(D15A, D15A1, D15A3) are not compatible with any other Honda engine, you can put a D16A head on a D15A block, but the engine will never be in correct timing and will never run right. Another example is the B20A4 and B20A5 non-vtec 88'-91' Prelude engine, you cannot put a vtec head on that engine, even though almost all other angines in the B-series are vtec(the B20B/B20Z CR-V engine is also non-vtec, but can be converted to vtec). Not all engines from the same letter series are compatible, even if they bolt up they may not run correctly.

as long as the letter is the same the cover should b the same for example b series engines (b16, b18, b20) or k series. u can exchange the cover on any engine as long as they have the same letter series. so yes u can change the cover from one d series to the other. only the late model of engines will it really differ but ur fine just an fyi

supposedly they do.
