Honda civic transmission?

Does the 2001 Honda Civic manual have transmission problems like their automatic counterparts do?

  • I'm about to get a 2001 Civic EX coupe with a manual tranny with 106 thousand miles on it. I was reading about the seventh generation Civics and found out that they are highly prone to transmission failures and that Honda doesn't bother to help fix their own problem if it's out of warranty. (What a shame, I had faith in Honda) All those failures came from their automatic transmissions though. Do the manuals have a crappy transmission too? Or are they reliable like the old Hondas were? I'm actually a bit nervous to get my car now but there's a part of me that still has faith in Honda.

  • Answer:

From 2001 to 2003 the Honda civics have been having very big problems with the transmission and also some major issues with the engine, but from what I've heard and read the transmission is only an issue for the automatic transmissions. I'd stay away from those years of Honda Civics

Manuals more reliable than autos, and a lot cheaper to replace a clutch than overhaul auto box.

I had a 94 civic DX with 5-speed manual around 60k miles and it was smooth as butter.
