Why does my 99 Honda Civic randomly stall while idle & while driving?

HONDA CIVIC 99' LX SERIOUS PROBLEM; ASAP WITH THE HELP!?

  • Hello, This is a shout out to all car mechanics. I am in dire need of help, ASAP! I'm going to put this as simple and detailed as possible. I have a 99' Honda Civil LX Nearly everything has been replaced at one point or another within the past 2 years, even the engine. So this is the issue. I was driving one day and randomly started hearing low pitched; not very loud like clicking (assuming it's the engine). My car started to stall out when i stopped at stop signs or lights, it would just die on me, and have to start it back up while hitting the gas. So, I checked it out and found it was low on oil.. okay so I stopped at a gas station and added some 5W-30 the correct oil of course. 2 quarts to be exact. Then it was working a bit more smooth, but then it go worse after I made it home, and tried to leave the same night. I drove a matter of 20 miles, and the worst 10 miles it was at the end on the way back.. The noise i heard before had become so loud it was like a damn motorcycle! And performance went to ****. I had to go up a hill I usually make up on 3rd gear, in 1st!! Now, I can eliminate a few ideas it might be thought to be. It's surely not electrical in any way, since I've got a capacitor for my battery and all new wires all around. So.. also not the alternator. Also, when I barely made it back that night, my car engine was so hot, it was bubbling mad! Yet, my meter was where it was supposed to; never showing over the middle on the engine temp.. I'm not gonna discuss my personal problems, but without this car, you all have no idea how royally ****** I am tomorrow.. Please give me your best suggestions, comments, ideas, or whatever you can THINK of! I need a problem solver for my car, RTA not a solution either; that's already ****** me too.. My insight is something the the head gasket, but not a clue where to check it.. AGAIN, PLEASE HELP. THANK ALL OF YOU IN ADVANCE!

  • Answer:

It sounds like you were losing compression; so start with a compression check of all 4 cylinders. Frankly, regardless of waht the issue is, I don't think it's something you can fix overnight.
