My Honda accord 2001 car does not start even if I jump start it, what could be the problem? I was told by mechanic whom I called, that the starter could be wrong. How much should I expect to be charged for this? If it is something related to alternator - how much does it cost to replace/fix it. I have no idea how much these costs, I was ripped off last time I went to on emechanic. Paid 420$ for brakes that too not all of them. Thanks apreciate answers to this.

Answer:
If you're battery is always dead, that's alternator. If your car won't start even with full battery or being jumped it's something else. Possibly the starter, possibly ignition timing, bad wires, or possibly just corroded connections from battery to starter. A new starter, installed, will likely cost you at least $300.

You need a new battery or try checking the acid in the battery cells. Just on screw the little caps on top of the battery and see how much fluid is in there if you can see the battery cells you need to put more acid and water depending how low it is but ask a parts store or call around to see what your mixture should be that's is acid and water and some times you can just put water just to top it off. good luck! Oh and another thing when you jump start your Vehicle and leave it running for 15 to 30 Min's.

Don't try to open up your battery. If you still have the original battery then there should be a clear circle on the top and a label next to it that indicates how charged the battery is according the the color. If you have a different battery, take it to any major autoparts store (Pepboys, Napa, Kragen, etc.) and they will test your battery for free. Now if you keep draining batteries then it is more than likely the alternator that needs to be replaced. Make sure there is no rust on the battery wires. If there is rust, mix lukewarm water with some baking soda and scrub the wires clean using whatever brush you got laying around. If that doesn't work then you'll need some new battery wires. There could be a number of things wrong with the car depending on how the car sounds when you try to start it. Clicking noises probably means you need a new starter. If the engine turns but it doesn't start, then it could be a clogged fuel filter, a bad fuel pump, or something electrical. www.partsamerica.com is a good website to see how much your replacement parts cost. All you have to factor in is the cost of labor which differs from mechanic to mechanic.
